Scott City visits Hugoton in a big week five matchup
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The second half of the season kicks off tonight, as the Scott City Beavers hit the road for just the second time this year, as they will face the Hugoton Eagles, who will have their second home game of the season.
Scott City is 3-1, following a 30-0 victory over the TMP Marian Monarchs last Friday night at Darner Field. The Beavers scored 14 second quarter points and 16 points in the fourth to put the game away. They were able to put up 256 yards of offense, while allowing a season-low 81 yards in their first shutout win of the season. So far this year, Scott City is averaging over 350 yards of offense per contest, with a little over 200 yards on the ground. The defense has been tough over the past two games, as they are allowing an average of 10 points and a little over 175 yards per game. They have allowed just six points over the past eight quarters of play. This will be Scott City’s first district game, as they had a bye in district play last week.
Hugoton is 4-0 for a second consecutive season, after they won at Colby 27-6 last Friday night at Dennen Field. Colby scored the first points early in the game, only to see Hugoton score the final 27 points on the night. The Eagles of Hugoton had 275 of their 286 yards on the ground, while they gave up 188 yards to Colby, with a bulk of it through the air. This year’s Hugoton squad is averaging just under 400 yards and nearly 45 points per game, while yielding just under 10 points and under 200 yards per game. They have been a run-heavy offense this year. Hugoton is 1-0 in district play, and don’t have their bye week in district play until next Friday.
This will be the 45th meeting in the series, with Scott City holding a 33-10-1 advantage. This is the first time since 2018 that the teams will face each other in Hugoton.
