Two area schools change classification in 23-24, several move in football classification for 24-25
Topeka, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Kansas State High School Activities Association has officially released the classifications of for the 2023-24 school year, as well as football classifications for 2024 and 2025. KSHSAA member schools turned in enrollment numbers September 20
Just two schools moved to a new classification this year. Scott City is in Class 4A for the first time since 2016-17, and are the smallest Class 4A School with 323 students 9-12. Elkhart, who has been Class 2A for several years, will be dropping to Class 1A for the 2023-24 school year.
Wichita East is the largest school in the state of Kansas, with 2,440 students, while Healy is the smallest with five students.
2023-24 School Classifications
In football, there were a few changes to area schools, specifically in the 8-Man and 6-Man ranks. Football is grades 9-12, and the changes will be for the 2024 and 2025 football seasons.
Kinsley will move back up to 8-Player I from 8-Player II, while Ashland, Deerfield, and Greeley County will move up to 8-Player II from 6-Player Football.
There will be 48 schools playing 8-Player I football, 39 schools playing 8-Player II football, while 6-Player will have 22 schools.
