GARDEN CITY, KS. – The saying is look good, feel good.

The Garden City Buffaloes debuted their new “Buff Out” gray uniforms tonight. The fans liked them, the players loved them, and after a big-time home win, everyone might want to get their hands on one.

Garden City won their second consecutive game at Buffalo Stadium, defeating the Wichita West Pioneers, 35-6. Garden City scored the first 28 points of this game, and the Buffs defense shut out their opponent in the first half for the third straight week.

Similar to last week, the Buffaloes offense started fast. Senior Ethen Allen returned the opening kickoff 87 yards to the West three yard line. Sophomore Kenny Nguyen took the Buffs’ first offensive snap into the end zone to give GCHS a 7-0 lead.

Nguyen’s first score marked the third straight week the Buffaloes offense scored a touchdown on the first series.

Nguyen’s night didn’t finish there. The sophomore finished off Garden City’s third possession with a two-yard touchdown, capping an eight-play, 60-yard drive to give the Buffs a 14-0 lead.

It was another strong night for Nguyen, who got his first career start on Friday against the Pioneers. He’s now up to three touchdowns on the season, tied for the team lead.

One of the players he’s tied with is the aforementioned Allen, who scored in the third week running with a 16-yard touchdown run to make it a three-score game. The Buffs closed the half in style, with quarterback Ethan Gomez hitting Brayden Sneath for his second score of the season, giving GCHS a 28-0 halftime advantage.

WWHS (1-2) only found the end zone once, when backup QB Zahmere Jackson found senior WR Kamden Wade for a 16-yard score in the third quarter.

The Buffaloes defense had the final say, when junior safety Evan Finch returned one of two Buffaloes interceptions 42 yards for a touchdown, sealing a 29-point win.

Garden City will travel to Hays High School for their first WAC contest against the Indians next week. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. on KWKR 99.9 ‘The Rock’.
