Beaver baseball season ends in Goodland
Goodland, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–In a regional, where it was a pretty even field of teams in the semi-finals, Scott City faced Goodland in the final semi-final game Tuesday afternoon at Centennial Park. A pair of 16-4 teams would match up in a game that would end up being a pitchers dual. In the end, it was Goodland who would advance to the regional final in a 4-2 win over the Beavers.
Scott City was close to grabbing an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, when JP Harris drilled a ball to left center field. It looked as if it would be out of the park. Unfortunately, the ball fell just short and Goodland made the play. The Cowboys would get three hits in the bottom of the first, and took advantage of two Beaver errors, as they turned it into four runs to lead 4-0 after the first inning.
The game would stay 4-0 for a majority of the day. Scott City left runners on in the second with two on and nobody out, and they threatened in the fifth inning with two runners on, but were unable to get a run in. It wasn’t until the sixth, when the Beavers would get their first run across. They took advantage of three Cowboy errors, and pulled to within 4-2. Lawson Bailey drove in a run as part of the two-run rally.
In the seventh, Scott City would go down in order, as they saw their season come to an end in a 4-2 loss.
Cole Linton went seven innings, giving up two runs on four hits with 11 strikeouts. Manny Gonzalez would have two hits for the Cowboys, who had just one hit after the first inning. JP Harris closed out his career with a good outing on the mound. He went six innings, giving up four runs, two earned, on four hits, with nine strikeouts.
Scott City closes their season out at 16-5.

Goodland would advance to the regional final, and rally from a 4-0 deficit to defeat Holcomb 5-4 in eight innings to win their second consecutive regional final. It was also the second straight year that Goodland and Holcomb met in the regional championship game. The Longhorns earlier in the day knocked off top seed Russell/Victoria 9-2.
