Beaver

Goodland, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It didn’t take long for Scott City to put it’s mark in their regional opener on Monday. The Beavers scored eight runs in the first inning, en route to a 15-0 win over the Southwestern Heights Mustangs in the Class 3A Regional at Centennial Park in Goodland.

Scott City would send 12 to the plate in the first inning, taking advantage of timely hits and led 8-0 after an inning. The Mustangs threatened in the second inning, loading the bases with no one out, thanks to an error and an infield hit to go along with a walk. However, the Beavers were able to strike out the side and prevent any runs to cross.

In the bottom of the second, Scott City plated three runs, and then with just one out in the bottom of the third, scored their fourth run of the inning to advance to their third straight regional semi-final game with a 15-0 win over the Mustangs.

Eloy Ruelas was 3-3 at the plate with an RBI, while JP Harris and Aaron Armendariz had three RBI in the game. Zach Roberts had two hits and drove in two runs, while Aaron Ruelas had two hits. Brady Welker struck out one and surrendered a hit in 1 1/3 innings, while Lawson Bailey struck out three of five batters retired in 1 1/3 innings.

Scott City advances to Tuesday’s semi-final round, where they will face Goodland. The Cowboys defeated Lakin 10-1 late Monday night. Both Scott City and Goodland are 15-5 on the season. Lakin ends their season at 5-15.
