Garden City Women’s Basketball Postseason Magic ends at Butler
El Dorado, KS (WesternKansasNews.com) The shoe fit for Garden City’s postseason dreams in the early part but quickly slipped off as Butler took control in the 2nd quarter to win 74-47 and end the Broncbusters season in the Region 6 quarterfinal.
Garden City came out with a 17-16 lead early in the 2nd quarter that forced a Butler timeout after Stevi Yancy drained a triple but the momentum would be zapped after Butler responded with a 7-point run and never looked back. Yancy would finish the game with a game-high 15 points most of those coming late while Garden City trailed big.
At halftime, Garden City found themselves down by 16 points trailing 37-21 in big part because of 10 first-half turnovers that through Garden City’s offense off all night. They would end the game with 16 in total.
In the 2nd half, the lead would only grow as the time ticked away on Garden City’s postseason run that saw them upset #6 seed Seward just three days ago. It was clear that Butler was not in for a letdown and let the Broncbusters beat them again. On February 25th in Garden City, the Lady Busters gave the Grizzles their only unranked loss of the season.
In the loss Coach Antwain Scales who finished his third season for Garden City said “it was typical us tonight, not enough mental toughness and that hurts me because I’m a coach who prides myself on toughness, we will get this thing turnaround this won’t be our finish next year.”
Garden City finishes their season for the 3rd straight year at the hands of Butler in the Region 6 Playoffs and an overall record of (11-21) and (7-18) in the Jayhawk Conference.
