GCPD Respond to Swatting Incident at Garden City High School

Garden City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–On March 1, at around 9:15 A.M., the 911 Communications Center received a call of an active shooter at Garden City High School. The caller repeatedly stated that three students had been shot in a classroom before ending the call.

Officers of the Garden City Police Department, the Finney County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Highway Patrol, Kansas Bureau of Investigation, and federal partners, as well as the Garden City Fire Department, Finney County EMS, and Finney County Emergency Management responded accordingly and cleared the school and surrounding area to ensure the safety of the students and staff. The school was placed on lockdown as Officers searched the building. No threats to the students, staff, or school were discovered. After a thorough investigation by law enforcement, the school was released from its lockdown and subsequently dismissed for the day.
 
Throughout the day, similar calls (swatting incidents) occurred across the state.
The safety of our children and community is of paramount importance. The Garden City Police Department and Garden City Public Schools take every threat seriously and will continue to partner to ensure the safety of students and staff and the community.
