Red Demons’ season ends with blowout loss at No. 6 Lawrence
LAWRENCE–Zaxton King dropped 37 points for No. 6 Lawerence Tuesday, paving the way for an easy win over Dodge City 67-39 in the opening round of sub-state at The Jungle.
Dodge City’s defense held tough in the first quarter, but the offense never found their footing, and still trailed 14-4 at the end of the first eight minutes. Then King hit his stride and ripped off 22 points in the second quarter as the Lions pulled away with a 47-18 lead at the halftime break.
Tochi Okoro was the lone Demon in double figures with 11 points and six rebounds. Dodge City shot just 29% from the field in the contest.
Meanwhile, Lawrence connected on 9-for-20 from beyond the arc to create early separation and led wire-to-wire.
The running clock, which goes into effect in the fourth quarter with a 30 point lead, was used the entire fourth frame.
Lawrence led by as many as 39 points in the second half.
The Red Demons finish the season 6-15.
