Andale wins 4A State Wrestling; five area wrestlers medal

Salina, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–In a tournament that featured several surprises, the Class 4A State Wrestling Tournament wrapped up Saturday night with a familiar team claiming the state championship inside the Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina.

Andale took a big lead after the first day, and never looked back as they won their second team title in the past three seasons. Rose Hill finished as runners-up and Augusta rallied on the backside to take third place, that came down to the last match of the tournament. Tonganoxie, the defending 4A State Champion, finished sixth.

As for the area schools, Scott City was the highest finisher, with a 14th place finish and two medalists. Houston Frank just missed out on a state title, losing in the finals at 165, while Collin McDaniel took home sixth place at 150 pounds. Ulysses was 21st as a team, as Justin Degollado closed out his career with a third place finish at 190. Hugoton was 31st, as Adam Mendoza was sixth at 157 pounds and Holcomb saw Gregery Martinez place sixth at 132 pounds, as the Longhorns were 33rd overall.
