Scott City’s Bailey signs with Fort Hays State
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Playing football has always been special in Scott City. While some close out their playing days after high school, few decide to take their talents to the next level. You can add another name to the list of football players from Scott City playing past high school.
On Wednesday, Scott City standout Lawson Bailey made it official by signing his letter of intent to play football in the MIAA for the Fort Hays State Tigers. Bailey signed just two days after making his verbal commitment, and after his official visit to the Hays campus.
After playing just four games during his junior campaign that was shortened due to injury, Bailey bounced back his senior year, rushing for 587 yards on 68 attempts, with eight touchdowns. He also had 14 receptions for 226 yards and five touchdowns to go along with 49 tackles with two sacks and two fumble recoveries, after moving to defensive end his senior season. Bailey also helped lead a turnaround in 2022, as the Beavers had eight wins, the most since 2019.
He was named First Team All-Purpose Back, and Second Team Defensive End by the GWAC in 2022.
Bailey chose Fort Hays State University over offers from NAIA schools in Kansas. He plans on majoring in business finance, with a focus in banking.
