Garden City, KS (WesternKansasNews.com) – The power plant has been a traditionally tough place to play for Garden City. This remained the same for the Broncbuster on Wednesday night for both the men’s and women’s programs as both fell to the Grizzlies.

Women’s Basketball | Garden City  47 Butler 86

The worst loss of the season for Garden came at the hands of Butler for Garden City. The Broncbusters held on for the 1st quarter trailing 17-15 but in the 2nd quarter, everything came apart for Garden City. They were outscored 50-15 in the next 2 quarters en route to the worst loss of the season.

“They were tougher than us, we need to find somebody on this team that needs to step up we got out-toughed tonight,” said coach Antwain Scales after the loss.

A lone bright spot of the night was a new career high for freshman guard Stevi Yancy with 11 points on three made three-pointers.  Garden City is back in action on Saturday at home vs. Hutchinson at 2 pm.

Men’s Basketball | Garden City 69 Butler 79

After a thrilling overtime win over Cloud County on Saturday the Broncbuster came into Butler riding a high and left with a low.

The Grizzles led Garden City in a tape-to-tape win in the Power Plant.

“We didn’t come ready to play, we have to look around at each other because if we show up like that for the next few games we will lose 4-5 games in a row in this league just like that”, Said Coach Rusty Elmore.

The Broncbusters would battle and fight the whole night but could never get close enough in striking distance with Butler. Garden City did have a bounceback performance from freshman Buru Naivalarua as he scored 17 points and finished with double figures for the first time in 3 games.

Following the loss, Garden City has a tough matchup at home at 4 pm vs. Hutchinson.
