Demons complete 1st sweep of season at Trinity

WICHITA–Dodge City’s boys used a 25-2 run in the second half to rout Trinity 69-41, and the Lady Demons’ offense sparked to life behind Becca Unruh’s season-high 23 points in a 50-23 win Saturday in Wichita.

In the boys game, Taylor once again took control for the Demons, posting 21 points after a 17-point performance Tuesday at Garden Plain. He was instrumental in guiding runouts and attacking the rim.

At halftime, with Dodge City trailing by three, the Red Demons made some key adjustments on the offensive end and began to more aggressive and punch the 2-3 zone the Knights tossed on the court the majority of the game. That worked wonders, and once the offense got rolling, so did the defense.

Dodge created 17 Knight turnovers and turned those into 17 points–16 of which were in the second half.

Early in the game, the two teams traded leads often, and the game ended with seven ties and six lead changes.

The Red Demons improve to 3-4 with the win and return to action Tuesday when they travel to Guymon, Okla. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT.

In the girls game, Unurh came out on fire and knocked down three triples in the first quarter alone. She added two more later in the game, four free throws and an overall 7-of-11 performance from the field.

Cait Pfaff also notched 10 points and six assists, most of which came in the first half when Dodge City made its 11-0 run to take firm command on the game.

Steals and transition baskets were key for Dodge, as they forced 29 Trinity turnovers and converted those into 34 points on offense.

The Lady Demons improve to 2-5 with the win and return to action Tuesday when they travel to Guymon, Okla. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT.
