Scott City wins 59th Ron Smith Invitational

Ulysses, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Despite being shorthanded, the Scott City wrestling team was able to take the team title at the 59th Annual Ron Smith Invitational in Ulysses on Saturday.

The Beavers racked up 183 points while Ulysses was second with 132.5 and Holcomb was third with 96.5 points.

Scott City would claim individual titles with Alex Rodriguez at 138, Collin McDaniel at 150, Houston Frank at 165 and Tanner Gooden at 215. On the girls side, they saw Johnna Sowers at 155, Lidia Alfonso at 170 and MacKayla Miller at 190-235 win individual titles. Ulysses got tournament wins from Sebastian Heredia at 126, Justin Degolado at 190 and Maya Tarbet in the 125-130 girls division. Holcomb’s winners included Gregery Martinez at 132, Javan Farr at 175, and three winners on the girls side with Jaylee Santana at 115, Charlier Koerner at 140 and Rian Rodriguez at 155. Wichita County got tournament wins from Wyatt Gardner at 144 and Jentri Porter in the 105-110 girls division. For Lakin, Alex Robles was the tournament champion at 120 pounds. Johnny Romo won the tournament at 285 for Garden City.

Collin McDaniel from Scott City was voted the Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament.
