DC girls earn 1st win, boys drop 3rd straight to Junction City

DODGE CITY–Junction City’s boys jumped out to an 11-2 lead and never looked back en route to a dominant 76-41 win over Dodge City, but the Lady Demons notched their first win of the season in a low-scoring 36-27 win over the Blue Jays Saturday at the Civic Center.

In the boys game, the Blue Jays led 26-8 at the end of the first quarter, and though Dodge actually outscored Junction City in the second eight minutes 20-19, the Blue Jays never had their lead cut under double digits the rest of the way.

The Red Demons fall to 0-3 with the loss and return to action Tuesday when they travel to Woodward, Okla. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT.

In the girls game, Dodge City took down a undermanned Lady Jay team that played the same five players more than 95% of the game. Junction City was without star forward Ava DeGuzman due to illness.

The Lady Demons owned the boards, out-rebounding Junction City 35-26, but more importantly, collected 21 offensive rebounds which led to 18 second-chance points. Alex Gere pulled down 11 offensive rebounds on her own and missed a double-double by two points.

Easha Potts led the Demons in scoring with 12 points and six rebounds.

The Lady Demons improve to 1-2 with the win and return to action Tuesday when they travel to Woodward, Okla. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT.
