Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–For the first time since 2013, the Liberal Redskins made the trip to Scott City to face the Beavers on Friday night at the Scott Community Events Center. It would be a doubleheader split in the Clarion Inn Roundball Classic, as the Lady Redskins take a 43-30 win, while the Beaver boys prevailed 66-44.

Scott City would have difficulties early on with the length and athleticism, as they would turn the ball over six times in the first period. Liberal never trailed and turned a 4-3 lead midway through the opening period into a 13-5 lead after the opening eight minutes. The second quarter would see the Lady Redskins slowly expand their lead and took a 24-12 lead. To open the second half, Liberal (2-0) scored the first seven points to lead 31-12 with five minutes left in the third frame. Scott City (2-1) couldn’t ever get a run going until the end, as trailed 35-16 going into the fourth quarter. The Lady Redskins led by as many as 21 points early in the fourth quarter at 37-16, and saw the Lady Beavers score the final six points to make the final 43-30.

Nine Liberal players scored, but none were in double figures. Keyona Hall had nine points, while Lizzy Cisneros had seven points. Scott City was led by Brooke Strine with 12 points and Erika Felker had eight.

With the win, Liberal has now won the last four in the series, and lead the series 15-5 since 1985.
