Lady Buffs pull away from Fairview to win 2nd game of the year in Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs, CO (WesternKansasNews.com) – January 29th, was the date last year when the Garden City Lady Buffs picked up their second win of the year on just the second day of the season they picked up win number two this year. This time it came with less pressure than the night before, after a narrow 52-50 win over Coronado High School last night, the Lady Buffaloes rumbled their way towards a 57-31 win over Fairview (CO) on Friday.

Garden City was battling through some general soreness from game one and a sick bug that has been going around to move to 2-0. The Lady Buffs were led in scoring by senior Makenzie Lucas who added 16 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Behind Lucas, was freshman KJ Pinchon who scored 12 pts, Amaya Gallegos with 12 as well, then Aileen Becerril added 11 pts. In total four Buffaloes were in double figures.

Coach Jacob Miller, who is coaching just his second game at Garden City, loved his group’s effort in game 2 from Coronado High School in Colorado Springs. “We responded well and brought the energy when we needed, seeing that quick start just like last night gave us confidence.”

Garden City has had back-to-back games in which the Lady Buffs totaled 20+ points in the opening quarter but have had to battle down the stretch. Today the defense did enough so the Lady Buffs didn’t have to worry late game “we just did enough and everyone came in focused, I would say the focus, especially on defense was really good today” Miller said.

The Lady Buffs will look to go 3-0 in Colorado with the final game of the gauntlet tomorrow at noon against Palmer Ridge (CO). The game can be heard on 99.9 “The Rock” as Garden City can match its total win mark from last season.
