Conq women use strong 4th quarter to rally past Ranger
MIDLAND–Dodge City’s women trailed by double digits early, but outscored Ranger 25-15 in the final quarter to beat the Rangers 83-74 in the Midland College Tipoff Classic at the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center Friday.
Leah Mafua led all scorers with 19 points and Bree Stephens posted a double-double, recording 17 points and 11 rebounds.
The Conqs continued their hot start from distance this season, knocking down 12 triples in 31 tries. Last season, Dodge shot just 29% from beyond the arc.
Dodge City also outscored Ranger 30-20 in the paint and controlled the inside game, a theme that’s become common through the first four games of the season.
Ranger raced out to a 13-3 lead and led the bulk of the way through the third quarter. But Dodge City began the fourth on a 9-0 run and never trailed again.
The Conquistadors improve to 3-1 with the win.
Dodge City returns to action Saturday when they take on Midland in the final game of the Midland College Tipoff Classic. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT.
