Dodge City’s season ends with shutout loss at Washburn Rural
TOPEKA–Washburn Rural scored touchdowns on five straight drives in the second and third quarter and handed Dodge City their only shutout loss in a 36-0 pounding Friday at Bowen-Glaze Stadium.
Titan Osburn caught three touchdowns for the Junior Blues, including the first of the game to give Washburn Rural an 8-0 lead. The Junior Blues grabbed a first quarter lead after a high snap over Red Demon quarterback Austin Schulte chased him into the end zone, where he recovered for a safety.
Rural was efficient on the ground, riding star running back Ma’Kenttis Adams for another triple-digit performance. He has gone over 100 yards rushing in nearly every game this season.
The Junior Blues, who have won four straight, have outscored their opponents 232-32 during the winning streak.
Dodge City finishes the season 4-5.
Washburn Rural advances to the next round of the KSHSAA playoffs next Friday with a long trip to Buffalo Stadium to battle Garden City. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
