Scott City visits Colby to wrap up regular season

Beaver

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It’s hard to believe, but the regular season will come to an end tonight, as the Scott City Beavers hit the road for the fifth time this year, as they face the Colby Eagles in District 8 play.

The Beavers clinched the district title last Friday night in a 57-14 win at home over the Goodland Cowboys, and improved to 6-1 with the win. Scott City raced out to a 20-0 lead in the opening quarter, and led 42-0 at the break. They would add 15 more points in the second half, before the Cowboys scored the games final 15 points. The Beavers finished with around 350 yards of offense, and held Goodland to 80 yards total, all coming on the ground. Scott City is averaging over 250 yards of offense, and 33 points, while limiting opponents to 13 points and under 150 yards of offense.

Colby is 2-5 on the year, after a 22-20 win over the Lakin Broncs in non-district play last Friday night at home. The Eagles rallied in the game, and held on for the two-point win. They have averaged 19 points and have allowed an average of 33 points for the season.  This year, Colby has been gaining around 200 yards per game on average, with a bulk of it on the ground. In last week’s victory, the Eagles rushed for 173 yards and had 251 yards of offense, while Lakin rushed for 259 yards, and didn’t complete a pass. Three teams have not completed a pass against Colby this year. At 0-3 in the district, the Eagles will not qualify for the playoffs, even if they win.

Scott City leads the series 28-18. Colby won last year 44-14, and has won two of the last three games in the series, after the Beavers won 15 straight before. This is the 21st time the teams have met in district play, with both teams winning 10 games each.
