Conqs blow past Diamond, win second straight
DODGE CITY – Dodge City took care of business Saturday over Diamond, a post-graduate academy out of Texas in their first season of competition, 46-6 at Memorial Stadium.
The Conquistadors marched 71 yards on their opening drive for a touchdown and didn’t look back from there. Immediately following a three-and-out by the Celtic offense, Dodge recovered a bad special teams snap for a touchdown, and led 12-0.
That lead ballooned to 40-6 by halftime, and the two teams agreed to play 12-minute quarters in the second half.
The Conquistadors had their best game of the season by far on the ground, racking up 292 rushing yards on 50 attempts, and averaging 5.8 yards per carry. Dodge featured two 100-yard rushers in Mark McDonald, who scored twice on 116 yards and Jamar Martin, who also found pay dirt twice on 110 rushing yards.
Dodge City out-gained Diamond 382-41 overall.
Dodge City improves to 2-2 with the win, the second straight for the Conquistadors. It’s the first time Dodge has won back-to-back games (excluding forfeits) since 2017.
The Conquistadors return to action next Saturday when they travel Garden City take on the Broncbusters. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
