Scott City stays on the road, this time to Hays
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Scott City has had their share of travel this year through the first three games. Yes, there was the three-hour drive to Wray, Colorado and last week, a 383 mile trek to Oklahoma City. This week, the Beavers are back in Kansas, but a much shorter road trip, as they take on an old foe in TMP-Marian in Hays.
Scott City suffered their first defeat of the year last week in a 30-20 setback to the Millwood Falcons in Oklahoma City. It was a back and forth game, where the Beavers led 20-14 with 10 minutes left, only to see Millwood score the games final 16 points in the win. Scott City would be outgained 291-129 in the loss. They forced five turnovers, with four interceptions, and turned those turnovers into 10 points. Millwood threw for 228 yards on the Beavers. This year, Scott City is averaging 30 points a contest, while giving up 10, and holding opponents to 128 yards a contest.
TMP-Marian is off to their best start since 2011, as they enter tonight’s game 3-0. The Monarchs picked up a Mid Continent League victory at Plainville 27-13 last Friday night. They scored the first 27 points before the Cardinals scored the games final 13 points. This year, TMP has done it mostly on the ground, with 327 yards per game offensively, with 306 coming on the ground. Kade Harris leads the ground attack with seven touchdowns and nearly 400 yards of offense, as the Monarch defense has allowed nine points and 159 yards per contest. They limited Plainville to around 100 yards last week.
This is the first meeting between the two schools since 2013, when Scott City won in district play 51-7 at Lewis-Field Stadium. It’s also the first time the two schools haven’t played a league or district game against each other since 1978, when the Monarch’s won 14-7. The Beavers lead the series 16-7-1.
Kickoff from Hays is at 7 pm, with pregame beginning at 6:30 pm. You can catch the game on Mix 94.5, on westernkansasnews.com/mix94 or on the TuneIn App and search for KSKL.
