Guymon Okla. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Hugoton Eagles remain unbeaten on the season with a 63-14 road win over the Guymon, Tigers, on a homecoming night for the home team. The homecoming festivities were capped off by the game ball being helicoptered in by Apollo Medflight. It was then all Hugoton Eagles that flew away with the game.
The Eagles held the Tigers to a 3 and out on the 1st series, and on the ensuing punt, the snap went high, and the Tigers were on it to secure the safety and a 2-0 lead. The Hugoton defense then gave the offense great field position throughout the 1st half, with 3 sacks and forcing 3 more Tiger punts. Linebacker Cade Reynolds led the defense with 3 sacks and a forced fumble in the first half. Two rushing touchdowns by Adam Mendoza, and one by Santiago Macias gave the eagles a 23-0 lead after the 1st quarter.
In the 2nd quarter, much of the same was in play. The Eagle defense surrendered no 1st downs, and gave the offense short fields to start. Hugoton picked up 2 more touchdowns in the quarter. QB Issac Martin completed a 26 yard td pass to Santiago Macias at the 6:24 mark, and then with 1:13 to go before half, Martin kept it himself on a 6 yard run. The Eagles went into half with the 37-0 lead.
In the second half, Martin again scored on a qb keeper, and freshman Autry Sullivan scored 3 touchdowns, 2 rushing, and 1 on a INT return. The Tigers scored twice on passes from QB Tarik Watson to bring the final to a 63-14 Eagle victory.
The Eagles (3-0) will host the Colby Eagles (1-2) next Friday 9/23. Colby is coming off their first victory of the season, 40-9 over Cimarron. This will be the first district game for both teams. Kickoff is set for 7pm.
