Dodge City scores on first 5 drives, routs Wichita South
DODGE CITY–A fast start for Dodge City, who scored touchdowns on their first five drives, gave the Red Demons the boost they needed to blow out winless Wichita South 42-12 at Memorial Stadium Friday.
Dodge racked up nearly 300 yards of offense by halftime, balancing the run and pass game almost evenly. All three Red Demon quarterbacks made an appearance in the first half, with both Kaden Garvalena and Austin Schulte tossing touchdown passes.
Garvalena went over the century mark in the first half through the air, registering 178 total yards on 7-of-9 passing in the game.
Isaiah Taylor leads the Demons in combined touchdowns, tallying two more on the night, the second of which came on an acrobatic leaping catch in the corner of the end zone to make it 21-0 at the time.
Vincent Ortiz also went over the century mark in receiving yards, snagging four catches for 101 yards and a touchdown.
South was only able to muster 69 passing yards, with Karlan Ransom connecting of 10-of-21 attempts.
Caiden Neal led the Titans on the ground with 122 yards and a touchdown.
Dodge City improves to 2-1 with the win, and now leads the all-time series with Wichita South 7-1.
The Red Demons return to action next Friday when they travel to Liberal to open WAC play. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
