benefit area schools

Garden City, Kan.– Several area schools are competing in Western State Bank’s “Bring in the Dough
Coin Challenge.” The Challenge acts as a fundraiser for the schools, while helping bring more coins
back into circulation.

Per the fundraiser, schools compete to raise the highest amount of money in coins throughout the
month of September. The schools will exchange their coins at Western State Bank, and receive a
check for the total amount raised. The winning school will also receive a match of up to $300 from
Western State Bank, and the winning grade level in each school will receive a donut party, with
donuts delivered by bank employees.

According to Western State Bank President Tyler Whitham, they created the Challenge as a way to
help improve the coin circulation issue while simultaneously helping schools fundraise with little-to-no
upfront costs.

“We see it as a win-win,” Whitham said. “The additional coin volume helps us to provide our local
businesses with the coins they need, and it gives schools a simple and easy way to fundraise.”
Participating area schools include Alta Brown, Jennie Wilson, Victor Ornelas and St. Dominic’s in
Garden City, and Holcomb Elementary, and Wiley Elementary in Holcomb.
Western State Bank has also placed collection containers for each school in its lobby for anyone
interested in contributing to the fundraiser.

Winning schools will be announced after Sept. 30 via Western State Bank’s Facebook page.
