Ciccarone slings 4 TDs, Conqs earn 1st win

DODGE CITY–Grant Ciccarone tossed four touchdown passes Saturday, leading Dodge City to their first win of the season, 28-14, over Highland at Memorial Stadium.

Ciccarone completed 21-of-33 passes for 268 yards. Three different receivers caught his four touchdown passes.

All three Conqs who caught a touchdown notched their first scoring grabs of their collegiate careers. Javon Campbell hauled in two of them, rounding out a 94-yard day through the air.

Highland hadn’t scored a touchdown all season until Saturday, but the streak ended after more than 11 quarters on an eight-yard grab by Darius Melton early in the fourth frame.

The Scotties were out-gained 353-320 in total yards, but many of those yards came in the fourth quarter for Highland.

Highland wasted two early opportunities to get on the board, missing a field goal on its first drive and allowing another to be blocked later in the first quarter. Dodge’s special teams unit also blocked a punt.

Dodge City improves to 1-2 with the win, which was their first since beating Highland last October. It was also Dodge’s third-straight win over the Scotties.

The Conquistadors are off next week. They return to action Saturday, Sep. 24 when they host Diamond Football Academy at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT.
