Scott City girls tennis ties for 2nd in Hays, cross country 2nd, 4th in Goodland

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It was a busy Thursday for the Scott City athletic department, as the Lady Beaver tennis team made their way to Hays and cross country opened their season in Goodland.

Starting off with Tennis, Scott City girls tennis team would tie for second with Garden City. Hays won the meet with 18 points, while the Lady Beavers and Lady Buffs had 17 points. Taking first were Malorie Cupp at No. 1 Singles, and the No. 2 Doubles team of Madison Roberts and Tatum Wells. Kennedy Wasinger was fourth at No. 2 Singles, and the No. 1 Doubles team of Haileigh Hickert and Ximena Garcia placed sixth. Scott City will send their varsity to Hoisington and Liberal on Tuesday.

The cross country team made their way to Goodland for the Goodland Invitational. On the girls side, the Lady Beavers finished fourth as a team with 94 points. Norton won the meet with 35 points and Holcomb was second with 62. Belle Trout led the way with a sixth place finish in a time of 23:39.2, Hailey Shapland was 22nd in a time of 26:44, Bre McPherson 23 with a time of 27:34. Jayden O’Brien was 24th (27:49) and Kami Winderlin was 28th (29:03). Two runners were unable to finish.  For the boys, Scott City was second with 46 points, behind meet winner Holcomb who had 32 points. Logan Stoppel led the way for the Beavers with a sixth place finish in a time of 19:12.5, Ivan Armendariz was seventh with a time of 19:20.8 and Spencer Cramer was eighth, running a time of 19:36.8. Bryndan Bailey placed 10th (19:48.6), Dylan Duff was 16th (20:11.4), Kasten Wren 17th (20:17.6) and Jace Miller was 23rd (20:59.3). Scott City will run at the Hesston Invitational on Thursday.
