Scott City, Kan. (Scott City PD)–On August 19th, 2022 at 06:32 a.m., an Officer with the Scott City Police Department performed a traffic stop in the 300 block of Main Street for a traffic infraction. During the stop, the Officer discovered the driver was giving a fake name. The Officer continued to investigate and was able to discover their true name. The Officer also learned the driver had been living in Scott City for 4 months.

The driver was identified as Pedro Morales, 31 years old, originally from Texas. The SCPD Dispatcher advised the Officer that Morales was wanted on a warrant from Texas and was possibly armed and dangerous. A Scott County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to assist with the stop.

The Officer arrested Morales for the Texas warrant of Parole Violation. The warrant originated in 2018 and Morales had been evading law enforcement ever since by giving false names. The original charges were Aggravated Robbery with a Deadly Weapon.

Morales is currently in the custody of the Scott County Sheriff and will be awaiting extradition back to Texas.

This traffic stop shows the dangers officers can face even when enforcing a traffic infraction. It also shows the importance of proactive enforcement of traffic laws. Not only does enforcing traffic laws make the streets and roads safer. Sometimes, it can make our community safer by arresting dangerous people.
