Garden City man breaks into home to feed his dog

Garden City, Kan (WesternKansasNews.Com) – On June 9, 2022, at around 1:40 A.M., Officers of the Garden City Police Department were dispatched to the 2700 block of Chainey Street for an aggravated burglary-in-progress. The reporting party told Officers that an unknown man was inside her apartment and she had locked herself in her bedroom.

Upon arrival, officers located the man, identified as Berny Cantu (31), Garden City, KS, with a large dog. Cantu was taken into custody without further incident, and Cantu’s dog was taken to the Garden City Animal Shelter. Through further investigation, Cantu allegedly broke into the apartment, took dog food from the residence, and fed it to his dog. Cantu was lodged in the Finney County Jail on charges of Aggravated Burglary and Criminal Damage.
