Scott City golf takes Colby regional title

Colby, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It’s been a special year for the Scott City golf program. Coming off their first-ever GWAC crown on Thursday, they would double that effort with a regional title Monday at the Class 3A regional meet at Meadow Lake Golf Course in Colby. It’s the first time in recent history that the Beavers have qualified for state as a team. 

Scott City would turn in a score of 347, four shots better than runner-up Colby at 351. Lakin was third with a score of 370.

Jackson Rumford from Scott City would take the regional title, shooting a three-over, 75, while Colby’s Hunter Vaughn was second with a 79. Lakin’s Kevin Tanner was third with a round of 80, and Kale Wheeler from Scott City was fourth with a round of 83.

The Class 3A State meet will be Monday & Tuesday, May 23-24, in Salina at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.
