Garden City High School Music Students Rate At State

TOPEKA, KAN (WesternKansasNews.Com) – Garden City High School music students participated in the Kansas State High School Activities Association State 6A Solo and Ensemble Contest on Saturday, April 28th that was held in Topeka, Kansas. Students from band, choir, and orchestra participated in the event. The students that participated in the state competition advanced from regional competition held in Dodge City on Saturday, April 2, 2022.

The school had eight band students perform solos at state. The following students received a I “Outstanding” rating: Emma Banwell, trumpet; Alicia Montoya, clarinet; Seth Palacio, bass clarinet; Meara Bergstrom, trumpet; Juan Moya, trombone; and Melissa Fierro, flute. The following students received a II “Excellent” rating: Neva Payne, alto saxophone; and Pablo Aguilar, tenor saxophone.

The school choir had nine soloists compete and three ensembles. The soloists receiving a “I” rating include: Byrant Detvongsa, Ryan Pilosof, Hayley Loya, and Anahi Alcantara. The soloists receiving a “II” rating include: Rylan Anderson, Jose Fernandez, and Sarah Kuhlmeier. The soloists receiving a “III” rating include: Annalise York and Gizelle Flores.

The Freshmen Women’s Trio received a “I” rating. The students include: Christy Donovan, Darby Reimer, and Annalise York. The Select Freshmen Treble Choir received a “II” rating. The students include: Katelyn Barrett, Christy Donovan, Gizelle Flores, Danica Galia, Alie Hernandez, Raelee James-Crist, Mackenzie Torres, Michelle Ramos, Darby Reimer, and Annalise York. Les Chantes also received a “II” rating. The students include: Anahi Alcantara, Bryna Bondarenko, Patricia Garone, Jazlyn Guerro, Leslie Jaco, Sarah Kuhlmeier, Arianna Martinez, Jenna Nelson, Adisyn Rogers, DeeAnn Smith, Natalie Unsworth, and Chloe Wilkerson.

The school had 17 members from the orchestra compete at the state contest. The Chamber Orchestra received a “I” rating. The members of the group include: Abby Ramos, Andrea Barajas, Anna LaMastres, Patricia Castillo, Meliny Kingstone, Alondra Guzman, Delilah Combs, Alexis Herrada, Noah Longoria, Asia Briggs, Jasmine Garcia, Jaelyn Grim, Lilly Moore and Makenna Metheny.

The orchestra soloists that received a “I” rating include: Julia Facio and Makenna Metheny on Bass. The soloists that received a “II” rating include: Jaelyn Grim on Cello; Ashley Kingstone and Ayden Cruz on viola; and Abby Ramos and Delilah Combs on violin. The soloist that received a “III” rating was Noah Longoria on violin.
