LAKIN, Ks (WesternKansasNews.Com) –

Traffic changes are scheduled to start April 12 along U.S. 50/400 from Lakin to the Finney County line, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

U.S. 50 traffic will be reduced to one lane through the project area, which is from the west city limits of Lakin east to the Finney County line.  Motorists should be aware of delays of up to 15 minutes as one-lane traffic will be directed by flaggers and a pilot car through the work zone. The lane reduction will be marked by signs and cones. When construction is not taking place, U.S. 50 will be open to normal traffic.

This project consists of 1.5-inch milling of existing pavement and overlaying with a 1.5-inch hot mix on driving lanes only. Milled rumble stripes will be added onto the centerline and shoulders. Permanent pavement markings will be placed on the roadway near the conclusion of the project.

Venture Corporation of Great Bend is the contractor on this $1.4 million project, which is expected to be completed by the end of June, weather permitting.
