Holcomb girls blow past Lakin

Holcomb, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Holcomb Lady Longhorns would cruise in round one of sub-state to win 64-26 over Lakin Tuesday night at Holcomb High School.
Holcomb came out slow against Lakin and would be down 5-3 after three minutes of play, but Halle Jones would carry the Lady Longhorns the rest of the quarter with 11 points on three, three’s. The Lady Longhorns closed the quarter on a 13-0 run and would lead 16-5 after the first quarter. Holcomb continued their run in the second quarter and stretched the lead to 40-10 at halftime. Halle Jones had 17 points and five, three’s in the first half. Jera Kruleski and Nicole Ruda combined for 18 points in the first half. The Lady Longhorns continued where they left off in the second half, leading 56-23 after three quarters. A running clock would occur in the fourth period, and the Lady Longhorns cruised to a 64-26 win over Lakin.
Lakin shot 8/30 from two-point, 2/9 from three-point, and 4/8 from the free throw line. They had 14 rebounds, eight of those were offensive rebounds. The Lady Broncs had 19 turnovers. Lakin was led by Brooke Groth with five points and five rebounds, Jara Davidson with six points, and Sara Wright with six points.
Holcomb shot 18/29 from two-point, 6/16 from three-point, and 10/14 from the free throw line. They had 22 rebounds, with six of those being offensive rebounds. The Lady Longhorns had 14 turnovers. Holcomb was led by Emma Cornelsen with eight rebounds, Jera Kruleski with 17 points, Nicole Ruda with 18 points, and Halle Jones with 20 points on six, three-pointers.
The Lady Longhorns advance to round two of sub-state to face Hugoton on Friday night at 6 pm in Kingman.
