Drunk Driver Hits Utility Pole in Garden City

12/28/2021 GARDEN CITY, Kan. (westernkansasnews)  – On December 24, 2021, at around 2:30 A.M., Officers of the Garden City Police Department observed a Chevrolet Colorado in the middle of the road in the 100 block of N. 13th Street.

Officers learned that the driver, identified as Matthew Padilla (28), Garden City, KS, crashed into a utility pole, at the intersection of N. Taylor Avenue and W. Fulton Street. The utility pole was severely damaged and had to be repaired by the City of Garden City Electric Department.
 
Through further investigation, it was determined that Padilla was suspected of driving under the influence. Padilla was taken into custody and lodged in the Finney County Jail for DUI. Padilla was not injured from the accident.
 
The Chevrolet Colorado was towed from the scene due to extensive damage. The total estimated loss of the vehicle and the utility pole is over $50,000.
