Dodge City 2nd to lead area teams at Great Bend Girls Invitational

Great Bend, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Several area athletes made their way to Great Bend on Saturday for the Great Bend Invitational Girls Tournament. Emporia would end up edging Dodge City by 10.5 points at 129-118.5 for the tournament title. Great Bend was third and Garden City finished fifth. Lakin finished 1oth, Scott City 17th and Cimarron was 24th.

There were five individual champions from the area, including Garden City’s Anahi Cervantes at 101, Josiah Ortiz and Isabell Ortiz took the 109 and 115-pound titles, Madison Newton won the 155B weight class and Jolette Almaraz from Dodge City was the 170-pound winner. Scott City had two third place finishers in Harli Roberts in the 115B weight class and MacKayla Miller was third at 235.
