Barricade Situation in Garden City Leads to Felony Arrest

11/19/2021 (westernkansasnews) – On November 18, 2021, at 12:55 P.M., Officers of the Garden City Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of N. 11th Street and W. Olive Street for an Aggravated Assault, where it was reported that a subject was pointing a firearm at people.

Officers located the subject, identified as Nelson Barrientos (28), Garden City, KS, walking in the 600 block of W. Olive Street. Barrientos fled from officers on foot and ran inside his residence. Officers had prior knowledge that Nelson had two active misdemeanor warrants and an active felony warrant. Officers attempted to negotiate with Barrientos, but Barrientos refused to exit his residence and surrender to police. The Garden City/Finney County SWAT team responded to assist. After approximately 3 1⁄2 hours, Barrientos surrendered to police and was taken into custody without incident.

Barrientos was lodged in the Finney County Jail on the charge of Interference with LEO (F), as well as his outstanding warrants. *The person(s) involved has not yet been convicted of a crime and are presumed innocent. The presumption of innocence shall continue until such time that the person(s) accused may be found guilty by a court of law.*
