Vehicle crashes into utility pole in Garden City

11/8/2021 (westernkansasnews) On November 6, 2021, at around 10:40 A.M., Officers of the Garden City Police Department were dispatched to the 1200 block of W. Kansas Avenue in reference to a vehicle that struck a utility pole and sheared it off the ground.

Upon arrival, Officers observed a Chevrolet Malibu blocking the southwest entrance to 1212 Buffalo Jones Avenue (Sonic West), with a wooden utility pole leaning on the hood and supported by connecting overhead powerlines.

The investigation revealed that the driver, identified as Maria Bravo-Vazquez (45), Garden City, KS, was traveling westbound on Buffalo Jones Avenue and struck the north curb. The Malibu then struck the utility pole near the southwest entrance of Sonic West, breaking it off at the ground. Bravo-Vazquez was transported to St. Catherine Hospital for
treatment. The City of Garden City Electric Department and Cox Communications arrived at the scene to remove and replace the utility pole and service lines, which took approximately 4
hours and affected several nearby businesses. The vehicle was towed from the scene once the overhead power lines were cut and removed from the utility pole and the pole removed.

The total estimated damages to the utility pole and service lines are $55,000.00.
