43 GCHS Seniors named KU Honor Scholars

Garden City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) 43 Garden City High School seniors have been named Kansas Honor Scholars by the University of Kansas Alumni Association.  The students will be recognized at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, by the Alumni Association with a reception and recognition ceremony held in their honor at Garden City High School.

The GCHS students include: Gonzalo Alcantar, Lance Allred, Yuriana Arroyo-Bocanegra, Allyson Becker, Kade Brennaman, Josephine  Calzonetti, Alexis Castillo, Javier Cervantes, Kaitlyn Chappel, Reigan Crawford, Jayden Crook, Amanda Currie, Tia Dunsworth, Brittney Ellermann, Elizabeth Guymon, Kylee Hipp, Gage Hodges, Jazmin Jimenez-Gonzalez, Kaylee Kells, Luz Labra, Raegan Linenberger, Laura Malagon Palacios, Zoe Magdalena McCallum, Brooke Navarro,  Mya Navarro, Duy Nguyen, Jonathan Ochampaugh, Alexis Powell, Amanda Powers, Megan Powers, Carolina Reyes, Lindsey Richmeier, Luis Rodriguez Zarate, Anna Roth, Grace Schmidt, Sidney Scott, Rosa Solorzano Higuera, Erika Solorzano Solorzano, Samantha Sosa, Giao Tang, Jhamel Transfiguracion, Elizabeth Unruh, and Rafael Uribe Olivares.

Scholars are selected based on academic records through the previous semester that are provided by high school principals. Selections are made regardless of curricula (weighted or non-weighted), majors, occupational plans or higher-education goals.

The Kansas Honors Program has been a KU tradition since 1971.  It is designed to promote academic excellence in secondary education, to reward high school seniors for their hard work and dedication, and to support Kansas communities.
