Garden City man arrested in aggravated assault case

Garden City, Kan.–A Garden City man was arrested early Sunday morning in connection to an aggravated battery.

According to the release from the GCPD, 47-year-old Joaquin Enrique Cancio-Morales faces charges from the incident.

Just before 1 a.m. May 19, Officers of the Garden City Police Department were dispatched to the west part of town for a report of unknown problems. When they arrived, Officers met with a woman with visible injuries, alleging that she and a family member were involved in an altercation with Cancio-Morales.
 
The investigation revealed that Cancio-Morales and several individuals were at a party when he and the woman were involved in an argument before being separated and returning to their residence. While at the residence, Cancio-Morales allegedly slapped the woman and threatened her and a family member with a knife as they attempted to call 911. Cancio-Morales then struck the woman over the head repeatedly with a glass bottle and left the scene before police arrived. The victim was transported to St. Catherine Hospital for treatment of injuries.
 
Cancio-Morales was subsequently located and taken into custody without incident. Cancio-Morales was lodged in the Finney County Jail for Aggravated Battery, multiple counts of Aggravated Assault, multiple counts of Criminal Threat, and Domestic Battery.
