Garden City Girls Soccer advances to 6A state quarterfinal after overtime thriller

GARDEN CITY, KS (westernkansasnews.com)-The Garden City Girls Soccer team will be advancing to the state tournament on Tuesday after an overtime thriller against Manhattan High School Thursday night.

The 2-seed Lady Buffaloes (10-3-2) faced an ailing 15-seed Junction City at home (2-11-2) in the first round of the 6A regional tournament Tuesday and blanked them to a tune of 7-0. In similar fashion, their bracket counterparts in the 7-seed Manhattan High Lady Indians (10-5-1) flattened Liberal with a score of 6-0.

After a one-day respite, Garden City and Manhattan faced off, with the Lady Buffaloes defending their home field with an overtime 3-2 victory over the Lady Indians in the West – Regional #2 Championship game. Garden City, who retained their 2-seed status, will advance to the 6A state West Quarterfinal game and will face the 3-seed Maize High School (13-4-1) squad at Garden City High School this coming Tuesday with a 7p kickoff.
