Buffalo wrestling sends four to finals

Wichita, KS-Garden City’s hopes of a fifth straight state championship are very much alive after an up-and-down opening day. 

Garden City qualified four wrestlers for the finals: Jacob Holt (113 lbs), Jesse Nunez (182 lbs), Zeke Herrera (195 lbs) and Benny Hernandez (285 lbs). 

“It’s great to have a chance to get my first,” said Herrera, who will battle Zach Bowen from Haysville Campus on Saturday. “I was upset in the semifinals last year, so this is unbelievable.”

The difference this year compared to last is that Garden City is not looking down at teams; they’re looking up. The Buffaloes enter day two trailing Manhattan and Olathe North by 11 points.
