Lula May (Craver) Woodson
Lula May (Craver) Woodson, 101, died Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains in Dodge City. Lula May was the daughter of Robert (Bob) E. and Anna E. (Phillips) Craver. She was born on March 21, 1914 in Natrona, Pratt County, and moved to Copeland with her family when she was four years old. Her father was sent to Copeland to manage the Rounds and Porter Lumber Yard.
On March 21, 1932, she married Maynard Woodson in Dodge City. They made their home southwest of Copeland until they moved into Copeland. Many winters were spent in Rockport, Texas, until they moved to Dodge City in 1996 and sold their house in Copeland.
Lula May enjoyed many crafts. She started oil painting in 1969 and later took up China painting. For many years she fixed the alter flowers for the United Methodist Church in Copeland. She wanted everyone to be her friend.
Lula May enjoyed a number of hobbies and sports. She often went fishing with Maynard. They bowled and golfed together. She was delighted to have a hole-in-one when playing golf in Rockport.
Her husband died in 2000, and she continued to reside in Dodge City. Due to a health condition in 2007, she moved to Manor of the Plains until her death.
Lula May was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the United Methodist Church in Copeland.
Lula May is survived by a daughter, Jacqualine and husband Jack Dunham of Plains; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Janay and Don Blome, Kennedy and Carter, Garnett; Joell Dunham, Wichita; Julie and Mark Wells, Austin and Caleb, Black Mountain, North Carolina; and John and Lori Dunham, Emma, Grant, and Macy, Kechi. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Evelyn, a brother Sam, and sisters Margret Withers and Caroline McCollum.
Funeral service will be held at Copeland Christian Church on Monday, March 14, 2016 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Bruce Titus presiding. Burial will follow at Copeland Cemetery. Friends may sign the book at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City from 8:30 A.M. to noon on Saturday, March 12, 2016. Memorials are suggested to Copeland Christian Church or Copeland United Methodist Church in care of Swaim Funeral Chapel.
