2 People in Critical Condition After Wreck on 1-70 in NW Kansas

THOMAS COUNTY, KS (westernkansasnews.com)  – 2 people are in critical condition after a wreck occurred in Thomas County Friday night.

 

The crash occurred on Interstate 70 around mile marker 72 around 3:40 p.m. Friday.

 

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Andrew Benefiel, 49, Wichita Kansas was heading Westbound on I70 in a 2021 GMC Sierra Truck. Kyle Cardwell, 30, Oklahoma was traveling Eastbound on I70 in a 2018 Ford F-150. Benefiel exited the roadway to the left and crossed the median. The GMC collided with Cardwell in the passing lane of I70. After the collision, The GMC continued Westbound and came to a rest in the South ditch. Cardwell  continued Eastbound across the Westbound lanes and came to a rest in the North ditch.

 

Both drivers were airlifted to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS for Serious Injuries. A second passenger in the Ford f-150 was taken to Logan County Hospital for minor injuries.

 

All drivers and passengers were properly restrained.
