14-year old arrested after alleged threats at school

Garden City, Kan.–Garden City Police arrested a 14-year-old male juvenile, following a school threat investigation on Monday.

On Monday, a School Resource Officer was notified of a possible criminal threat at Kenneth Henderson Middle School (KHMS), learning that he had allegedly made threats toward the school, and began an investigation. During the investigation, the juvenile did not listen to KHMS personnel or the Officer and attempted to strike the Officer before being taken into custody. As a precautionary measure, the school was placed into a brief lockdown during the incident.

The 14-year-old was later lodged in the Southwest Kansas Juvenile Detention Center for Aggravated Criminal Threat, Assault LEO, and Interference LEO.

The Garden City Police Department and Garden City Public Schools take every threat seriously and will continue to partner to ensure the safety of students and staff and the community. We encourage parents to remind your child to immediately report information about any school safety-related incident(s) to administrators/staff and/or the Garden City Police Department.
