12-year-old driver loses control, goes airborne

THOMAS COUNTY, Kan (WesternKansasNews.Com) – The KHP says a Hyundai Elantra being driven by a 12-year-old child went off the road and went airborne Sunday.

According to Kansas Highway Patrol, at around 8:05 PM, the Elantra was heading north on Country Club Drive when it lost control, hit a dirt embankment, and went into the air. While in the air, the car turned counterclockwise and landed on its passenger side in the middle of Country Club Drive, facing Northeast.

The child was taken to Colby Medical Center with suspected minor injuries. A 27-year-old man and an 11-year-old girl were also in the car. They were also taken to the hospital with suspected minor injuries.

According to the KHP, no one in the car was wearing a seat belt.
