11 Red Demon athletes sign with colleges
Dodge City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) Wednesday was National Signing Day and it was in full affect at Dodge City High School. 11 Red Demon athletes signed college letters of intent to continue their athletic careers.
Nine of the signees were from the Dodge City soccer programs. Miguel Baca headlined the group signing with Fort Hays State. Baca was named the Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year in 2016-17 and was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year.
Five players from the boys team signed in total. Cesar Alvarez, Pancho Cayetano, Mario Martinez and Joshua Don Juan all signed with Dodge City Community College. The Dodge City went 21-0 in 2016 winning the 6A State Championship and made it to the State Semi-Finals in 2017.
Four girls from the Lady Red Demon soccer team signed on Wednesday as well. Angie Ojeda headlined the group signing with Kansas State. Kenia Melendez and Aimee Ortiz signed with Dodge City Community College. Mariah Reyes signed with Butler Community College.
Outside of soccer cross country runner Luz Lopez will continue her career at Dodge City Community College. Jonathan Austin signed on to swim at Tabor College.
