1 killed in Hodgeman County crash

JETMORE, Kan. — One person has been killed following a head-on collision on Monday morning in Hodgeman County.

The accident occurred just after 11:30 a.m. when dispatchers received a call of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 156, about six miles east of Jetmore. The accident involved a pickup truck and a car.

Christopher Shelton, 27, of Jetmore was headed westbound on 156 when his Chevy Impala crossed over the center line and collided head-on with a Ford Truck driven by Barbara Cossman, 59, of Jetmore.

Shelton’s vehicle immediately spun off and went into the ditch on the north side of the road where it ended up upside down. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Cossman reported no injuries and did not receive any treatment.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Shelton was wearing his seat belt, while Cossman was not.

A portion of Highway 156 was closed from the time of the accident until Monday evening and has since re-opened.
