Garden City, KS (www.westernkansasnews.com) – For just a brief moment early in the first quarter, Garden City would have a brief lead over the #1 Salthawks. The early score for Garden City came after Hutchinson fumbled on their first play from scrimmage when Jamison Likes failed to handle the pitch from Trevor Turner and the Buffaloes recovered giving them a first and ten on the Salthawks 18 yard line. Five plays later senior running back Brady Bean would bulldoze his way over from 3 yards out, Rudy Chavez added the PAT and the Buffs had the lead 7-0. Then the Hutchinson Salthawk option offensive machine took over, engineered by senior quarterback Trevor Turner and the Salthawks would score 5 straight touchdowns to own the Buffaloes and the first half with a 35-7 lead at intermission.

After the break it was a couple more quick touchdowns, one on special team, as the Salthawks Tanner Higgins would run the 3rd quarter opening kick-off back 90 yards for the touchdown making it 42-7. On the third play of their first possession in the 3rd, junior Greyson Tempel threw his 2nd interception of the game into the hands of sophomore defensive back Colby Turner who returned it 41 yards for the touchdown and the Salthawks were in overdrive and owned a 49-7 advantage with less than two minutes gone in the third. From that point on it was just a matter of playing the game out and both teams would score again making the final 56-14 the Salthawks. Buffalo Coach Brian Hill comments on the game and what his players will need to do to get ready for the “Hatchet Game”.
